Introduction

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Auction data is retained until the auction owner deletes the auction. When you delete your account, all your personal data is immediately and permanently removed from our systems. We do not retain backups of deleted user data.

Auktiva is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.

How We Use Your Information

If you use the hosted version at auktiva.org, your data is stored securely using industry-standard infrastructure. Database information is stored using Turso (distributed SQLite), and uploaded images are stored using S3-compatible cloud storage.

If you choose to self-host Auktiva, you are responsible for your own data storage and security. Self-hosted instances can use local SQLite databases and local filesystem storage for complete control over your data.

Data Storage

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties. Your auction data is only visible to members of the auctions you participate in, according to the privacy settings configured by each auction owner.

Auction owners can configure privacy settings including anonymous bidding to hide bidder identities, invite-only access restrictions, and role-based permissions to control what each member can see and do.

Data Sharing

If you choose to sign in with Google or Microsoft, we use their OAuth 2.0 services to authenticate your identity. When you sign in with these providers, we receive your basic profile information (name, email address, and profile picture) from them.

We do not receive or store your Google or Microsoft password. Each provider's use of your information is governed by their respective privacy policies. You can revoke Auktiva's access at any time through your Google Account settings (myaccount.google.com) or Microsoft Account settings (account.microsoft.com).

Third-Party Authentication (OAuth)

We may send you emails for welcome messages when you register, auction invitations when someone invites you to participate, outbid notifications when another user places a higher bid, and new item notifications for auctions you've joined.

You can manage your email preferences in your account settings at any time. Notifications for outbids and new items are disabled by default to respect your inbox.

Email Communications

We use browser local storage to remember your theme preference (light or dark mode) and to maintain your session authentication. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics services that track your behavior across websites.

Auktiva is 100% open source software released under the MIT License. You can review our complete codebase on <a href="https://github.com/thomsa/auktiva" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="text-primary hover:underline">GitHub</a> to see exactly how we collect, store, and handle your data. You can also self-host Auktiva for complete control over your information.

Open Source Transparency

Under GDPR and similar data protection regulations, you have the right to: access your personal data through your account settings, correct inaccurate information by updating your profile, request deletion of your account and all associated data (right to erasure), and manage your email notification preferences.

Your Rights (GDPR)

You can permanently delete your account at any time through Settings → Delete Account. This process is immediate and irreversible.

When you delete your account, we remove: your profile information (name, email, password hash), your user settings and preferences, your auction memberships, auctions you own (or transfer them to another user), items you created, your complete bid history, all your notifications, and any connected OAuth accounts.

If you own auctions, you must either transfer ownership to another registered user or choose to delete them before your account can be deleted. If you are the Deployment Admin, you must transfer those rights first.

By accessing or using Auktiva, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our service. These terms apply to all users of the platform, whether using the hosted version or a self-hosted instance.

Acceptance of Terms

You may self-host Auktiva on your own infrastructure. When self-hosting, you are solely responsible for server security and maintenance, data backup and protection, compliance with applicable laws in your jurisdiction, and providing user support and dispute resolution for your users.

The hosted version at auktiva.org is provided free of charge and runs entirely on free-tier services under the project creator's personal accounts. We use Vercel for hosting, Turso for database storage, and Brevo for email delivery — all on their respective free tiers.

While we make every effort to keep the service running, please understand that free-tier services have limitations. There may be usage caps, occasional downtime, or service changes beyond our control. For mission-critical use cases or higher reliability requirements, we recommend self-hosting Auktiva on your own infrastructure.

Auktiva is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or meet your specific requirements. Use of the service is at your own risk.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Auktiva and its creators, contributors, and maintainers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. This includes but is not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, failed or disputed transactions, unauthorized access to your account, and service interruptions or errors.

Limitation of Liability

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

You may delete your account at any time through Settings → Delete Account. Account deletion is immediate and permanent. Before deletion, you must handle any auctions you own by either transferring ownership to another registered user or choosing to delete them. If you are the Deployment Admin, you must transfer those rights to another user first.

Upon account deletion: your personal data is permanently removed, your auction memberships are terminated, items you created are deleted, your bid history is removed, and you will be immediately signed out. This action cannot be undone.

Account Termination

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will post a notice on the platform and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

What is Auktiva

To use Auktiva, you must create an account with accurate information including your name, email address, and a secure password. Alternatively, you may sign in using Google or Microsoft OAuth, which allows you to use your existing account credentials. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and should not share your account with others.

You must be at least 18 years old or have parental consent to use Auktiva. Please keep your account information up to date to ensure you receive important notifications about your auctions.

User Accounts

Auktiva offers sign-in through Google and Microsoft OAuth as a convenience. When you use these sign-in options, you authorize the respective provider to share your basic profile information (name, email, profile picture) with us. Auctions use a role-based permission system to control what each member can do. Auction owners are responsible for managing their members and resolving any disputes within their auctions.

Roles and Permissions

When participating in auctions, you agree to honor your winning bids and complete transactions offline with the item seller. You should provide accurate descriptions for any items you list and respect the auction end times and bidding rules set by the auction owner.

Each auction may have its own specific rules determined by the owner. Make sure to review any auction-specific guidelines before participating.

Auction Participation

You agree to use Auktiva responsibly and legally. You must not use the service for illegal purposes, post fraudulent or misleading items, or engage in bid manipulation such as shill bidding.

Harassment, abuse, or threats toward other users are strictly prohibited. You must not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the system, use automated bots or scripts, or upload malicious content that could compromise the platform or other users.

Acceptable Use

Auktiva does not process payments, collect payment information, or facilitate financial transactions of any kind. Winning bidders and item sellers are solely responsible for arranging payment methods, completing the exchange of items, and resolving any disputes that arise.

Auktiva is not liable for any disputes, losses, or damages arising from offline transactions between users. We recommend discussing payment and pickup arrangements before the auction ends.
